e) 4-Amino-2, 7-dichloropyridopyrimidines (Inter. 6); To a cooled (0-50C) stirred solution (0.1 M) of the trichloro substrate (Inter. 5)(1 equiv.) in CH2Cl2 was added diisopropylethylamine (1 equiv.) in a dropwise fashion. The appropriate amine (1 equiv.) was then added to the reaction mixture portionwise over the period of 1 hour. The solution was maintained at room temperature with stirring for a further 1 hour before the mixture was washed with water (2 x 1 reaction volume).
