A solution of 2-(trifluoromethyl)pyrimidine-5-carbaldehyde (860 mg, 4.88 mmol) and but-3-en-1 -01 (0.420 mL, 4.88 mmol) in DCM (5.2 mL) was cooled to 0C. The product was purified by flash chromatography (silica, gradient heptane/EtOAc, 1:0 to 1:1), to give 1.24 g (78%) of the desired product.
