The residue was triturated with ethanol, collected by filtration and washed with ethanol to give ethyl 4-formamidopyrimidine-2-carboxylate (20.0 g), mp 205-206 C. I.R. nu maxNujol: 3100, 1720, 1630, 1570, 1520 cm-1.
