Parra-Melipan, Sebastian;Lopez, Vicente;Moya, Sergio A.;Valdebenito, Gonzalo;Aranda, Braulio;Aguirre, Pedro research published 《 Valorization of furfural using ruthenium (II) complexes containing phosphorus-nitrogen ligands under homogeneous transfer hydrogen condition》, the research content is summarized as follows. In this paper, we report the catalytic activity of a series of ruthenium (II) complexes containing phosphorus-nitrogen bidentated (P-N) ligands in the hydrogenation of furfural via hydrogen transfer reaction using two hydrogen donor sources: 2-propanol in basic medium and formic acid under mild conditions. The results showed that all the ruthenium complexes studied are catalytically active in the hydrogenation of furfural by hydrogen transfer reaction; they showed 100% conversion with both hydrogen sources. However, selectivities towards the formation of furfuryl alc. were better when formic acid was used. It was also found that the reaction studied in a basic medium competes with the Cannizzaro reaction, obtaining furfuryl alc. and furoic acid in a 70/30 ratio; on the other hand, using formic acid as the hydrogen source yields furfuryl alc. with 100% selectivity. Although formic acid can be used as a hydrogen source successfully. The optimal substrate/acid ratio was found to be 1:1, as a higher concentration of formic acid can cause catalyst decomposition The yielded products, furfuryl alc. and furoic acid, obtained from renewable sources, have multiple applications in the organic chem. industry, replacing or complementing similar fossil-derived products.

Pillaiyar, Thanigaimalai;Rosato, Francesca;Wozniak, Monika;Blavier, Jeremy;Charles, Maelle;Laschet, Celine;Kronenberger, Thales;Mueller, Christa E.;Hanson, Julien research published 《 Structure-activity relationships of agonists for the orphan G protein-coupled receptor GPR27》, the research content is summarized as follows. GPR27 belongs, with GPR85 and GPR173, to a small subfamily of three receptors called “Super-Conserved Receptors Expressed in the Brain” (SREB). It has been postulated to participate in key physiol. processes such as neuronal plasticity, energy metabolism, and pancreatic β-cell insulin secretion and regulation. Recently, we reported the first selective GPR27 agonist, 2,4-dichloro-N-(4-(N-phenylsulfamoyl)phenyl)benzamide (pEC50 6.34, Emax 100%). Here, we describe the synthesis and structure-activity relationships of a series of new derivatives and analogs of 2,4-dichloro-N-(4-(N-phenylsulfamoyl)phenyl)benzamide. All products were evaluated for their ability to activate GPR27 in an arrestin recruitment assay. As a result, agonists were identified with a broad range of efficacies including partial and full agonists, showing higher efficacies than the lead compound 2,4-dichloro-N-(4-(N-phenylsulfamoyl)phenyl)benzamide. The most potent agonist was 4-chloro-2,5-difluoro-N-(4-(N-phenylsulfamoyl)phenyl)benzamide (pEC50 6.85, Emax 37%), and the agonists with higher efficacies were 4-chloro-2-methyl-N-(4-(N-phenylsulfamoyl)phenyl)benzamide (pEC50 6.04, Emax 123%), and 2-bromo-4-chloro-N-(4-(N-phenylsulfamoyl)phenyl)benzamide (pEC50 5.99, Emax 123%). Docking studies predicted the putative binding site and interactions of agonist 4-chloro-2-methyl-N-(4-(N-phenylsulfamoyl)phenyl)benzamide with GPR27. Selected potent agonists were found to be soluble and devoid of cellular toxicity within the range of their pharmacol. activity. Therefore, they represent important new tools to further characterize the (patho)physiol. roles of GPR27.

Popov, Kirill K.;Campbell, Joanna L. P.;Kysilka, Ondrej;Hosek, Jan;Davies, Christopher D.;Pour, Milan;Kocovsky, Pavel research published 《 Reductive Amination Revisited: Reduction of Aldimines with Trichlorosilane Catalyzed by Dimethylformamide – Functional Groups Tolerance, Scope, and Limitations》, the research content is summarized as follows. Aldimines R1CH2NHR2 (R1 = but-3-yn-1-yl, Ph, thiophen-2-yl, etc.; R2 = Bu, Bn, cyclohexyl, 5-methyl-1,3,4-thiadiazol-2-yl, etc.), generated in situ from aliphatic, aromatic, and heteroaromatic aldehydes R1CHO and aliphatic, aromatic, and heteroaromatic primary or secondary amines R2NH2, can be reduced with trichlorosilane in the presence of DMF (DMF) as an organocatalyst (≤10 mol%) in toluene or CH2Cl2 at room temperature The reduction tolerates ketone carbonyls, esters, amides, nitriles, sulfones, sulfonamides, NO2, SF5, and CF3 groups, boronic esters, azides, phosphine oxides, C=C and CC bonds, and ferrocenyl nucleus but sulfoxides and N-oxides are reduced. α,β-Unsaturated aldimines undergo 1,2-reduction only, leaving the C=C bond intact. N-Monoalkylation of primary amines is attained with a 1:1 aldehyde to amine ratio, whereas excess of the aldehyde (≥2:1) allows second alkylation, giving rise to tertiary amines. Reductive N-alkylation of α-amino acids proceeds without racemization; the resulting products, containing a CC bond or N3 group, are suitable for click chem. This reaction thus offers advantages over the traditional methods (borohydride reduction or catalytic hydrogenation) in terms of efficiency and chemoselectivity. Solubility of some of the reacting partners appears to be the only limitation. The byproducts generated by the workup with aqueous NaHCO3 (i.e., NaCl and silica) are environmentally benign. As a greener alternative, DMA can be employed as a catalyst instead of DMF.

A bimetallic catalyst (Ni/Cu-MCM-41) is prepared via co-condensation method. Catalytic performance of Ni/Cu-MCM-41 is probed in N-alkylation of amines with alcs. through a hydrogen autotransfer process. Noteworthy, this catalytic system appears very efficient for synthesis of a range of secondary and tertiary amines in good to excellent isolated yields. Moreover, the catalyst is successfully recovered and reused four times without notable decrease in its activity.

Noro, Shin-ichiro;Meng, Yu;Suzuki, Kazushige;Sugiura, Minori;Hijikata, Yuh;Pirillo, Jenny;Zheng, Xin;Takahashi, Kiyonori;Nakamura, Takayoshi research published 《 A Temporarily Pore-Openable Porous Coordination Polymer for Guest Adsorption/Desorption》, the research content is summarized as follows. Flexible porous coordination polymers (PCPs)/metal-organic frameworks are unique materials that have potential applications as components of highly efficient separation, sensor, and actuator systems. In general, the structures of flexible PCPs drastically change upon guest loading. In this investigation, authors uncovered the rare one-dimensional PCP [Cu2(bza)4(2-apyr)] (1; bza = benzoate and 2-apyr = 2-aminopyrimidine), which exhibits a unique type of flexibility involving temporary pore opening. Single-crystal x-ray diffraction anal. revealed that desolvated 1 and Et acetate (AcOEt)-loaded (1·AcOEt) and CO2-loaded (1·CO2) 1 have isolated pores. In the case of 1, the pore structure prevents guest penetration. In addition, the isolated pore structures of 1·AcOEt and 1·CO2 block guest release. However, 1 participates in reversible adsorption/desorption of AcOEt and CO2 because pore opening occurs temporarily. The CO2 adsorption/desorption isotherms of 1 are type I and dissimilar to those observed in traditional flexible PCPs with adsorption/desorption hysteresis. The lesser conventional flexibility displayed by 1 could offer new insight into the design of flexible PCPs.
