The large-scale use and release of antibiotics may create selective pressure on antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs), causing potential harm to human health. River ecosystems have long been considered repositories of antibiotics and ARGs. Therefore, the distribution characteristics and seasonal variation in antibiotics and ARGs in the surface water of the main stream and tributaries of the Chishui River were studied. The concentrations of antibiotics in the dry season and rainy season were 54.18-425.74 ng/L and 66.57-256.40 ng/L, resp., gradually decreasing along the river direction. The results of antibiotics in the dry season and rainy season showed that livestock and poultry breeding were the main sources in the surface water of the Chishui River basin. Risk assessments indicated high risk levels of OFL in both seasons. In addition, anal. of ARGs and microbial community diversity showed that sul1 and sul3 were the main ARGs in the two seasons. The highest abundance of ARGs was 7.70 x 107 copies/L, and intl1 was significantly pos. correlated with all resistance genes (p< 0.01), indicating that it can significantly promote the transmission of ARGs. Proteobacteria were the dominant microorganisms in surface water, with a higher average abundance in the dry season (60.64%) than in the rainy season (39.53%). Finally, correlation analyses were performed between ARGs and antibiotics, microbial communities and heavy metals. The results showed that there was a significant pos. correlation between ARGs and most microorganisms and heavy metals (p< 0.01), indicating that occurrence and transmission in the environment are influenced by various environmental factors and cross-selection. Maricultured organisms are chronically exposed to water containing antibiotics but the bioaccumulative behavior of antibiotics in exposed organisms at different growth stages has received little attention. Here, we investigated the concentrations and tissue-specific bioaccumulation characteristics of 19 antibiotics during three growth stages (youth stage, growth stage, and adult stage) of various organisms (Scophthalmus maximus, Penaeus vannamei, Penaeus japonicus, and Apostichopus japonicus) cultivated in typical marine aquaculture regions, and explored the factors that could affect the bioaccumulation of antibiotics. Tetracyclines (TCs) and fluoroquinolones (FQs) were the dominant antibiotics in all organisms, and the total concentrations of the target antibiotics in fish (S. maximus) were significantly higher than those in shrimp (P. vannamei and P. japonicus) and sea cucumber (A. japonicus) (p < 0.01). The bioaccumulation capacity of a class of statistically significant antibiotics in most samples was strongest during the youth stage and weakest during the adult stage. The antibiotics exhibited higher bioaccumulation capacity in lipid-rich tissues (fish liver and shrimp head) or respiratory organs (fish gill) than muscle. Our results also reveal significant metabolic transformation of enrofloxacin in fish. Different from previous studies, the logarithm bioaccumulation factor (log BAF) was pos. correlated with log Dlipw in low-biotransformation tissues (fish gill and muscle) rather than lipid-rich tissues (fish liver). Based on the calculated hazard quotients (HQ), doxycycline in fish muscle may pose a distinct risk to human health, which deserves special attention. The water, sediment, and feed samples were found to contain twelve, nine, and four types of antibiotics, resp., and the concentration of erythromycin-H2O was the highest among these antibiotics. No target antibiotics were detected in the reared shrimp samples from this typical shrimp farm, which employed ecol. rearing with no antibiotic use throughout the rearing processes. The total concentrations of antibiotics in water source were 1.96-40.58 times higher than those in pond water. A significant decrease in the total antibiotic concentrations of the pond water was observed, while a significant increase was observed in sediment during each rearing period (p < 0.05), suggesting that antibiotics transferred from the water phase to the sediment phase in the farm. Redundancy anal. demonstrated that the COD was neg. correlated with the concentration of the target antibiotics in the water samples during three rearing periods (p < 0.05). The results of calculations conducted using the concentrations of antibiotics in the water source, pond water, sediment, and feed samples detected in this study indicated that the water source was likely to be the main source of antibiotics in the rearing ponds. Herein, a novel in-situ synthesis of CNT/UiO-66-NH2 based molecularly imprinted nanocomposite membranes (CUMIMs) is designed for selective removal of SMX. The CNT/UiO-66-NH2 nanocomposite is prepared through in-situ growth of MOFs in the presence of CNT. The CNT around the MOFs can effectively avoid the aggregation of CNT/UiO-66-NH2 nanocomposite and introduce unique properties into the PVDF/PVA membrane, which simultaneously benefit in both hydrophilicity and water flux. More importantly, the well dispersed CNT/UiO-66-NH2 nanocomposite with huge specific in the membrane can facilitate the selectivity toward SMX. Foods and water can be contaminated with antibiotics in China, which may affect children′s health, but evidence on antibiotic exposure with precocious puberty (PP) is limited. This study explored the association of antibiotic exposure with PP in a school-based setting. A cross-sectional study with multistage stratified cluster random sampling was conducted in Zhongshan City, Guangdong Province and Qufu City, Shandong Province in China from Oct. 11 to Dec. 5, 2019. A first-morning urine sample was collected to detect antibiotic exposure. We detected 33 of 45 types of antibiotics from eight categories in 928 primary school children aged 6-12 years using HPLS-MS/MS. Detection rate of antibiotics was stratified by sex, study site, and BMI. The Tanner stages were assessed by professional pediatricians from local hospitals. PP is defined as the onset of secondary characters before 8-yr-old or menarche before 10-yr-old for girls and before 9-yr-old for boys. Multivariable logistic regression was performed to examine the association between antibiotic exposure and PP after adjusting potential confounders. The overall detection rate of antibiotics was 93.0% in 928 children. We found the detection rate of tetracyclines and fluoroquinolones in children with PP was significantly higher than that of children with normal puberty (41.4% vs 29.9%, 56.8% vs 50.6%, resp., all p < 0.05). Both fluoroquinolones (odds ratio (OR): 1.835, 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.066-3.158) and tetracyclines (OR: 2.120, 95% CI: 1.175-3.825) were associated with increased OR of PP after adjusting sex, age, BMI, study site, and family income. Specifically, compared to the values less than the limits of detection, low concentration of ofloxacin from fluoroquinolones (OR: 2.056, 95% CI: 1.091-3.875) and high concentration of chlortetracycline (OR: 3.027, 95% CI: 1.126-8.140) and tetracycline from tetracyclines (OR: 2.756, 95% CI: 1.167-6.506) were associated with increased OR of PP. In 2018, AOAC International issued Standard Method Performance Requirements (SPMR) 2018.010 – Screening and Identification Method for Regulated Veterinary Drug Residues in Food. In response, we compared 4 different multiresidue methods of sample preparation using the same anal. method entailing ultrahigh-performance liquid chromatog.-tandem mass spectrometry (UHPLC-MS/MS). Tilapia was chosen for testing, and the analytes and monitoring levels were from SPMR 2018.010. The methods consist of efficient procedures with published validation results from the US Department of Agriculture (USDA), Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA), and an enhanced-matrix removal (EMR)-Lipid protocol from China. Each method was used to prepare 102 final extracts of tilapia spiked or not at different levels with the 78 targeted analytes plus metabolites. The same FDA/USDA rules of mass spectral identification were employed in all analyses to assess rates of false positives and negatives. Quant. accuracy of the methods was also compared in terms of recoveries and reproducibility of spiked tilapia, incurred catfish, and spiked and certified reference material of bovine muscle.
