2-Chloropyrimidin-5-ol (13.0 g, 100 mmol) was dissolved in DMF (130 mL) (solution) and K2C03 (27.5 g, 199 mmol) was added (suspension), followed by iodoethane (16.1 mL, 199 mmol).
