A convenient and simple synthesis of novel N-aryl 2,4-dichloro-7H-pyrrolo[2,3-d]pyrimidines I [Ar = 4-HOC6H4, 4-NCC6H4, 2-naphthyl, etc.] via copper (II) acetate catalyzed N-arylation of 2,4-dichloro-7H-pyrrolo[2,3-d]pyrimidine using arylboronic acids was described. The yields obtained for all derivatives were in the range of 45-70% and this synthetic approach was extensible to other heterocycles such as 1H-indazoles.
