To a solution of 5-methyl-lH-pyrazol-3-amine (550 mg, 5.67 mmol), DIEA (0.906 mL, 5.2 mmol), and KI (392 mg, 2.36 mmol) in DMF (10 mL) was added 2,4,6-trichloropyrimidine-5-carbaldehyde (1 g, 4.73 mmol). The mixture was stirred at rt for 3 h, then water was added and the mixture was stirred for 20 min at rt. The precipitated solid was collected by filtration to afford 2,4-dichloro-6-(5- methyl-lH-pyrazol-3-ylamino)pyrimidine-5-carbaldehyde (1.4 g) as a yellow solid that was used without further purification.
