6-chloro-uracil (7 g, 1 eq.), methyl iodide (8.9 ml, 3 eq.) and anhydrous potassium carbonate (3.36 g, 0.5 eq.) were stirred in 30 ml of dimethylsulfoxide at room temperature for 3 h, then 38 ml of water was added and stirred in ice bath for 2 h.
