A pharmaceutical or veterinary composition for coelomic administration, especially a suppository, contains sulfamethoxazole (I) [723-46-6] and trimethoprim (II) [738-70-5] (1:1-10:1) or their salts and a small amount of a phospholipid to prevent solidification during mixing the above ingredients and to avoid the delayed disintegration. An organic acid may be added to increase the absorption of II. Thus, a suppository containing I 20, II 4, soybean lecithin 2, and Witepsol 74 parts had a disintegration time of 13 min after storage at room temperature for 3 mo, whereas the control without the lecithin did not decompose even after 60 min.
